There is a maximum of 14 starters that are permitted to enter each of the 14 Breeders’ Cup Championships races. Of these 14 Breeders' Cup races that are contested on ಌeither turf or dirt over the course of the meeting, 13 are rated as being Group One standard, while one♐ is a Group Two.

History of the Breeders' Cup
The first Breeders' Cup was held✱ in 1984, stemming from the desire to create an end-of-season championship for North American Thoroughbred racing season. It was first proposed in 1982 by John R. Gaines, a thoroughbred horse owner and breeder who wished to clean up the sport's image. The event has become one of the richest occasions in racing, with prize money largely pooled from nomination fees paid for by breeders.
The Breeders' Cup is held at a new host venue each year, and, as of 2021, all events have been staged in the United States – with the exception of 1996, when the races were at the Woodbine Racetrack in Canada. It wasn’t until 2007 that the Breeders' Cup was relaunched as a two-day event.
